One of the challenges to this Geocaching Blog is to relate it to and connect it to an instructional setting. Here is a link that I found that can get you started.

I enjoy being active and find that I learn more efficiently if I can be active and actively learn. Maybe we can discuss and find ways to bring the classroom to a geocaching spot.

  1. Andy,
This is a fascinating topic and I look forward to seeing how you mold it to use in instruction. The article gave us a starting point for showing how it can be used to learn about nature and geography as well as cultural events. I think this will be a great learning activity for your kinesthetic learners. Even for us read/write learners, it is nice to get outside the classroom and move some. For me personally, movement like hiking or running is where I do my best thinking and reflecting. I will see what I can come up with to share in future conversations. My first stop, YouTube. I am certain there will be plenty of ideas there.

  2. Andy,

I think this is a fascinating topic as it relates to the field of education. I must admit that I know absolutely nothing about this topic. This is what drove me to your blog. I am interested to learn about this topic and share ideas as it relates to the field of education.
I do believe the rage a couple of years back was with “Pokemon Go”(heck I still think there is people who play that game). It was part of the geocaching technology. That interactive geocaching game was extremely popular. If instructional designers could figure out how to incorporate that into learning, it could pay enormous dividends for future students. This technology allows the education institutions to use a blended learning environment. I think that is the future, and so why not try to incorporate geocaching into the mix. We both are familiar with the power of GPS and how it applies to our profession. It is an extremely powerful tool that if used properly can have high pay off. The use of GPS geocaching technology can help with numeracy, science, social subjects, and just about anything the mind could imagine.
I think through interaction I will be able to identify the pros and cons to this kind of technology. I look forward to discovering all about this technology. Just like geocaching, it will be fun to go investigate through mapping, this topic on where it can go! Have a great day!

  3. Andy,

Like Mike and Kevin, I am interested to see how geocaching can relate to education. I agree with you that it is going to be a challenge. I've only experienced geocaching as a treasure hunting game that was really fun. Navigation would definitely be a part of the learning process along with getting some Physical Education as well. How do you see geocaching becoming more prevalent in the e-learning domain? I can definitely see it being a really fun way to learn, kids and adults would love it. I am looking forward to your insight on this very interesting topic.
